We started out as a university group, namely Aberdeen Univerity Vegan and Vegetarian Society, however as we gained more and more non-student members we decided to break out and be an Aberdeen group more generally.
We leaflet in the city centre regularly, on various animal rights issues, and try to take an approach more focused around informing the public of the issues and strong reasoning behind them, rather than using ‘gory’ pictures. As well as this we produce the ‘Compassionate Guide to Living in Aberdeen’, which is (as far as we know) the first guide to animal-free shopping in this city – take a look around town if you want one!
Other events we have held include hosting PETA's Animal Liberation Project, holding a bake sale and sponsored vegan for a week in aid of Willows Animal Sanctuary, many film screenings (including Earthlings, White Lies and The Witness) and several more social events such as a ‘Vegan Night’ on World Vegan Day.
